Mbabazi Shakira

provides support for this child

Mbabazi Shakira is one of the sponsored students of The Sonrise School. She is 10-years-old and from Kigali, Rwanda. She describes herself as slim and short.

“One day I will be the head of a company,” she tells us.

We asked her what she enjoyed doing. She told us that she loved listening to music, that her favorite singers are Kingstone, Miss Shanel, Tom Close, Kizito Mihingo and King James. She enjoys watching films and expresses that she would love to hear stories about other children in other parts of the world.

We asked her, Would you like to share your story with other children around the world?

“Yes,” she replied, ”because maybe they can help me.”

When we asked her what sort of things she would like to know about other children around the world, she expressed that she was curious to know what they liked to eat, what things they like to do and how they behave.

What do you like to eat?, we asked.

“I like rice, Matooke, chicken and meat with chips,”  she said, “but most other children in Rwanda like Posho, rice and chips.”

Shakira takes seven subjects at school. She tells us they are science, English, Social Studies, Math, Kinyarwanda, Physical Education and Computers. Her favorite subject is Math.

She shares with us that Sonrise is a wonderful school:

“I like my teachers so much,” she says.

Finally, we ask her what makes her country special and what she would want people from around the world to know about Rwanda.

She replies, “My country of Rwanda is now living in harmony. It looks beautiful. There are many trees, volcanoes, lakes and rivers. There are also mountains where the mountain gorillas live.”

Mbabazi Shakira dreams of one day travelling to Canada and the USA. Thanks to the sponsors who support The Mustard Seed Project based in the USA, children like Mbabazi Shakira will have the chance to study, find healing and accomplish their goals. They can look forward to a bright future.
